What is Khadya Sathi Scheme?
The Government of West Bengal launched the Khadya Sathi Scheme for the entire state on 26 January 2016. This scheme has been launched to provide food security across the state Under this scheme, rice, and wheat will be provided to the beneficiaries at the rate of Rs. 2 per kg. It covers about 90% of the state’s population. The project aims to create a systematic food system for the distribution of food to ration card holders in the state. About 10 crore people in the state are covered under this scheme. During the Covid lockdown period, beneficiaries under this scheme were provided free ration from June 2020 onwards.
